Author Application

Thank you for considering joining our team.

The following text explains which requirements you have to fulfill to join the MangaMoon team. Furthermore we will talk about how the team works and how you get paid.

Requirements

Our requirements for applicants are rather mild. Since we split our money in a way where each author is basically rewarded by their activity on the site and writing particularly good articles, there is no activity requirement. Of course we would appreciate it if you are often active and available and write a review maybe every few weeks, but there is no number of posts you have to reach per month to stay in the team. This way we give the authors the greatest possible flexibility and they can decide for themselves how much they want to contribute.

Nevertheless, there are some requirements which we have to set in order to be able to continue to guarantee a certain quality of our reviews and posts.

  1. Passion for Manga: The most important requirement for someone who wants to join the MangaMoon author team is a genuine interest and passion for manga and anime. They should be knowledgeable about the different types of genre, well-know series, and the current trends in the industry.
  2. Writing and grammar: The applicant should have strong writing skills to be able to write engaging and informative blog posts that are easy to read and understand. You should have a good understanding of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Before you get worried though: As long as you know general grammar and can get the readers interest through funny jokes or any other strategy, you should be good 🙂
  3. Independence and creativity: At MangaMoon our authors follow general provided guidelines and instructions to make the posts more engaging and visually appealing. Apart from that, you should be able to work independently and come up with your own creative ideas for reviews.
You are required to present your own unique perspective on the manga and should be able to analyze different aspects from what you have read.
  4. Communication skills: Communication is key. As an author, you should be able to communicate effectively with the rest of the team. You should be open to feedback and be willing to make edits to your reviews or lists. This is particularly important when it comes to choosing the right manga for your review, since two reviews of the same manga that are talking about the exact same details are unnecessary.
  5. WordPress Experience: Applicants that already have experience in using the WordPress Plugin Elementor have a greater chance of being accepted. If you are new to Elementor, don’t worry: The editor is very intuitive and it should not be hard to learn the basics. If you have any questions during the process of writing a review, the rest of the team is always happy to help.
During the application process, we may ask you to provide a writing portfolio or samples of previous work. This helps us evaluate your writing skills and determine if you are a good fit for the team.

Payment and revenue split

The MangaMoon website generates revenues by displaying ads. The following step by step list shows how we split the revenue.

  1. Every month, the generated revenue is put into a money pool.
  2. Maintenance costs are the first thing that are being subtracted from the pool. This includes monthly server costs (which are thankfully rather cheap) as well as yearly domain costs. This adds up to around $5 per month.
  3. Next, developing costs are deducted. More precisely, this is the payment of our front and backend developers who are working on new features, design as well as stuff like E-Mail Newsletters. This adds up to around 20% of the remaining money in the pool after the deduction of maintenance costs.
  4. The remaining 80% are split between the authors.
  5. How much the individual author earns depends on the amount of money their post generated in the last month. More precisely, the amount of money one earns is connected to the amount of people who clicked on an ad on one of their posts and what share these clicks had of the total clicks in the last month.
Note: Ads are currently disabled since the site traffic is too low. The server costs are currently completely paid from my own pocket. As soon as we are able to produce more content, we are going to re-enable advertisements and be able to pay everyone again. Until then, we are happy to accept every one that applies with the link down below. We promise payment as soon as we actually make profit with this project, until then this is more of an voluntary work. 😅

In general, you should know that website ad revenue is a rather unstable income source. So please know that there will be months when we make little to no revenue at all.
